My Approach

Every school has its own story. Every solution should reflect that.

Every school has its own story. Every solution should reflect that.

Over more than thirty years working in education, I’ve learnt that meaningful and lasting improvement rarely comes from applying someone else’s blueprint. Every school has its own culture, strengths and challenges, and every leadership team has its own story. That’s why I never arrive with predetermined answers.

Whether I’m providing interim leadership, supporting school improvement, strengthening SEND and inclusion, or coaching leaders, I begin by listening. I take time to understand what is already working well, where the challenges lie and what matters most to the people within the organisation. Only then can we identify priorities and develop solutions that are both practical and sustainable.

Leadership with compassion and purpose

Leadership with compassion and purpose

I believe the strongest leaders combine compassion with high expectations. They create environments where children, young people and staff feel valued, trusted and supported, while never losing sight of improving outcomes.

Throughout my career, I have led schools through periods of growth and change, supported colleagues during challenging times and worked alongside families, governors, local authorities and external agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that lasting improvement is built on trust, strong relationships and a shared sense of purpose.

For me, compassionate leadership is not about lowering expectations. It is about understanding people, creating the conditions in which they can flourish and having the confidence to support, challenge and inspire others to achieve their very best.

Experience that shapes my approach

Experience that shapes my approach

Everything I do today has been shaped by practical leadership experience across mainstream, specialist and alternative education. I’ve worked with schools and organisations facing very different challenges, but one thing has remained constant: sustainable improvement comes from understanding people, building trust and developing leadership at every level.

I’ve worked with schools and organisations facing very different challenges, but one thing has remained constant: sustainable improvement comes from understanding people, building trust and developing leadership at every level.

Over the course of my career, I have:

Led strategic SEND and inclusion across a growing special school.

Served as Acting Headteacher, providing stability and direction during a period of significant change.

Helped grow Pebble Brook School from around 98 to 180 pupils while maintaining a clear focus on quality, inclusion and high expectations.

Led safeguarding, behaviour, curriculum development and whole-school improvement.

Developed innovative provision, including establishing a specialist class that enabled pupils with the most complex behavioural needs to remain successfully within school.

Built effective multi-agency partnerships to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.

Supported schools through successful Ofsted inspections and organisational development.

Coached and developed leaders at every stage of their careers, helping them grow in confidence and effectiveness.

These experiences have taught me that meaningful change doesn’t happen because someone arrives with all the answers. It happens when people feel heard, understood and empowered to be part of the solution.

Building capacity, not dependency

Building capacity, not dependency

My role is never simply to solve today’s problems. It is to leave schools and organisations stronger than I found them.

Whether I am leading a school on an interim basis, supporting improvement work or developing leadership capacity, my focus is always on building confidence, strengthening systems and enabling others to succeed long after my involvement has ended.
